spoiled by cds
Leopold Auer was definitely one of the greatest violin teachers in history.Even though this book does not contain a cd which in my opinion would greatly enhance its use, it does contain enough good tips and etudes to make the purchase price a bargain. I would though recommend it only as a useful source, not as a primary study book. For that I would go with either the Suzuki or Mark O'connor books.

Very helpful exercises specifically to develop bowing skills.
Very helpful exercises specifically to develop bowing skills. Most books focus on left hand development and neglect right hand and arm skills

Helps beginners with bowing
This is a fantastic book! It explains music notation and rhythm. It has very good details about bowing techniques to improve your tone. There is a lot about posture, holding the violin, and how to hold the bow. Some information about general maintenance of the instrument also. The exercises are very good for beginners. There are a few words before each exercise about how to bow them. The book is of course very, very old, the photographs in black and white, do not look very clear. But the detailed explanations about playing technique and fundamentals in this book are fantastic. Leopold Auer was a legendary violin teacher. This book has more than stood the test of time, and I believe can benefit all beginners.
