Potentially The Best Fantasy Series Since "Wheel of Time"
If you, like me, have been searching for an epic fantasy series to replace Robert Jordan's, "The Wheel of Time," this book is the beginning of just such an adventure. I absolutely and totally was mesmerized by this book...everything about it is superbly crafted. From the world building, to the characters' development, to the quality of the literary style, and the way the dialog is appropriate to the totality of the work, it is simply outstanding. All the characters are multi-dimensional, not just the central ones. Male and female characters both have strong, complex personalities in which one quickly becomes invested. The book is long, but the action moves along so smoothly that you find yourself at the end much too quickly. I am looking forward with great anticipation to the next book in the series and hope I can look forward to at least one per year for many years to come!If you love exceptionally well-written fantasy, then this book is a must read for you.

Awesome World, Great Concept, Excellent delivery!
I stumbled upon this book when it was in its second round of beta reading. I had no idea what I was getting into when I started reading. And kept reading. From the very first chapter, Wisehart draws the reader in and leaves you wanting more. The characters are believable and diverse with different inner voices that make the reading fun. I really felt like I was there with them and was rooting for the good ones and hated, but understood, the bad ones. With each new character introduced, you fall a little more in love with the world and the way the book flows is genuine and authentic. My favorite character by far is Ferrin...though his beginnings in the book have some gruesome torture involved that made me cringe...you can't help but fall for him as he keeps himself sane..sorta..throughout his ordeals. I'm also super pumped to know these characters are headed next. I can't wait for the next book in the series!Magic, intrigue, family ties, romance, epically written battle scenes, solid characters, and more are found in this book! I would definitely recommend it if you are a fan of great writing, a fantastic story, and an addict for getting lost in other worlds.

Editing needed desperately!
This book would have been very much better with some editing. Paragraphs were repeated and there were many spelling mistakes and grammatical errors, for example, “boy” used instead of “bow”.In addition, there is a jarring combination of “old” epic fantasy themes and settings, with modern day thoughts and ideas, and in some cases the language used just didn’t feel right.I really wanted to love this book...I bought it with great anticipation especially as there were so many good reviews. Unfortunately I could only read it in stop-start mode, as it took me a few days each time to get over the irritating mistakes and the language vs theme incongruencies before I could take it up again. Perhaps it was only the kindle version which was so riddled with editing issues. *Sigh*

Unpredictably Captivating
This book is so engaging and pulled me right from the very first sentence!I started reading while mistakingly believing it's just another fantacy book only to get the surprise of the well thought plot, well developed characters, detailed area map, social, and political views and conflicts that felt so real.Michael Wisehart has proven himself to be a gifted author not only because his book captivates you from the very first sentence which makes it hard to put down, but also because his storyline is so vivid you'd hope you'd see it on the big screen.I'd recommend this book for anyone who likes fantasy novels as this one isn't like any you might have read.Michael Wisehart is definitely now on top of my list of To Follow authors. Can't wait to get his next

5 Stars earned
THE WHITE TOWER is your first installment of a fantasy epic in the classic sense. Straight-forward, memorable characters, and headlong action that flows seamlessly with just enough plot twists that definitely kept my interest. There are enough surprises and inventive sequences to whet my impatient interest for the next volume.Quite impressed by the world Mr. Wisehart has created. The politics, culture, magic system, and background are well constructed and cohesive - well done.Supported by a bevy of solid characters, the world of Aldor feels natural and well-developed. Too many writers take these aspects for granted, and DO NOT take the time to develop the background and history - this is what separates the good writers from the wannabees. Mr. Wisehart has thoughtfully done his homework and given us a rich tapestry on which to enjoy the march of personalities you quickly get invested in.I’ll be upfront here - I was privileged to read the first beta version of this. The basic style then was solid. The rewrite took EVERYTHING to the next level. One of the questions he asked beta readers was - ‘Use 3 words to describe your impression’.My answer at the time? ‘Intriguing - character-driven - inventive’.Nothing’s changed for me - except the excitement of seeing the maturation of the finished product! My favorite character - Ferrin - has a wicked edge in his magical abilities. He has the potential to become an exceptional major character. Not just in The White Tower series - as a memorable character in the world of Classic Fantasy lore. Recently, Mr. Wisehart finished a ‘prequel’ story describing the events that landed Ferrin in the Tower where we find him in the novel. This story exposes one of Mr. Wisehart’s best talents - character development. I’m pumped. Mr. Wisehart had a few rough spots in the beta edition of The White Tower, but he smoothed those out exceptionally - the proof in the pudding that reveals the maturity in an author is when you get the beta for a follow up story/sequel - and find yourself at the end of it... with nothing to say except "Please, sir, may I have some more?" No edits required. THAT, my friends, is why the 5 Stars for this offering. This also gives me EXACTLY what I’d been waiting to hear - that the author is committed to the series and the characters in it. I'm a series junkie, and have no qualms admitting it in public. The White Tower delivers. As for the first installment here, the ending is a quintessential cliff hanger. Nicely timed and leaving us all wanting more. Don’t ever consider slowing down, Michael - you’ve got a winner here! For those of you who’ve been sitting the fence - hesitating to jump in - don’t let this one pass you by. Get in on the ground floor. Satisfaction isn’t easy to find. You’ll find it here.

Could be so much better
A good story, but did not live up to expectations from reading other reviews. I found the characters lacked depth, and I did not really connect with any of them. The biggest fault I think is though that the story just drags along. It seemed to take an age for anything to happen, there was just too much detail, and I found myself putting the book down because I got bored, then going back to it after a little while. The second part not out yet so have time to decide whether to purchase.

Grew on me
I found the narration excessive and a little cheesy, putting me in mind of long summer evenings listening to my grandmother tell rambling tales of her youth after a few too many glasses of great uncle Alfred's geranium wine <-- an example of the type of thing I'm talking about. However, by the end I was looking forward to the sequel, hence the positive review.Nothing wildly original so far, but the action scenes are quite well written, being fast paced but easy enough to follow.I bought this book as an impulse purchase, and in the end I didn't regret it.

Fast paced
I enjoyed this book partly due to the pace in which the story was told, and also there was just enough description of the characters without confusing you. A good start to this series.

Addictive series of books
Excellent series of books. Very well written with a story line that keeps you intrigued and coming back for more. Coming of age fantasy story telling at its very best.
