5-star technique in a 3-star book
Well, I've been Coherent Breathing for a while and have found it to be a very helpful tool, physically, mentally, and spiritually. My experience is that it is a very worthwhile tool in the mindfulness toolbox. It is actually very easy to learn and the chapter in the book that describes the method is clear, concise and informative. And I did like the chapter regarding breath and other spiritual paths and philosophies.I found myself "speed reading" the rest of the book, though. Just didn't like it. It's like it tried to be technical and "science-ey" but evidence is mostly anecdotal. I like hard-assed science and soft-hearted philosophy and wanted more of both.So, I like the technique, would like to see some strong science done on it, and would like to see it better presented.And the pages are falling out of my book. That sucks. It's practically new.

Water-damaged
Sadly, I haven't read the book. It arrived badly water-damaged, and I just can't bring myself to start. Interestingly, the package it arrived in is dry and intact. Also, there is a very large barcode sticker over the title (perhaps to indicate 'not-for-sale'?). Anyway, I live in New Zealand and don't want to endure the fuss of sending it back and waiting,waiting. A shame, as prior to this I had held Amazon in great esteem. (I am giving one star as the system obliges me to give stars. This is no reflection on the book itself. The content of the book still very much interests me... but ugh!)

I like the way the material is presented as I think ...
An outstanding, very well written book that provides a wealth of information on the subject matter. It really helped me broaden my knowledge of HRV. I also use it to expand on my lectures and workshops. I like the way the material is presented as I think it can be easily understood by both clinicians and clients alike. The graphs help illustrate the points and understand the theory in more detail. I would recommend it to anyone who wants to learn and train HRV.

A useful guide for stress management
The author of this small book explains how consciously regulating your breathing rate to 5 per minute positively affects the body and mind in a profound way. He has discovered that breathing rate directly affects stress levels as measured by the galvanic skin response and the heart rate variability. There is clear evidence that coherent breathing balances the sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, produces a deep sense of calm, and is a core element in stress management. He weaves his scientific findings into the ancient traditions of yoga and meditation. His contributor, Dee Edmonson, offers 12 case examples, but this is the weakest part of the book as she clearly confounds outcomes by adding neurofeedback, plus there is little offered for long-term follow-up results. Despite this, the authors make a strong case for practicing coherent breathing and the book serves as a useful guide for learning this powerful self-regulation method. I recommend the book for anyone interested in taking charge of their own health, both mental and physical.

Complicated book
A very complicated book which spends 80% of its content convincing you that the method works. The book is equally filled with graphics that I failed to understand, maybe you will and get what you except from this book! I didn't
