The flat measuring tape works so much better than a regular measuring tape. Marking an accurate measurement is so much easier since you don’t have to try to roll the edge over to perfectly line up with making a measurement while often trying to keep the tape in place as it tries to unhook itself. This is the one that I reach for first use now.

I have no idea why the flat-blade design isn't more common...You'll still want to use your traditional tape measure for measuring a room or wall (or anytime you want the tape to stand straight, since this one is very floppy), but this is the perfect for measuring and marking anything flat on a table or a floor. Of course there's the obvious benefit of the tape's markings lying directly on top of the piece you're measuring. But even better for me, I can stretch it out across a workpiece, set it down, even hanging off the edge of the table or workpiece, and it won't roll over or rotate, moving the tape measure out of position. The tape lies flat. I can't tell you how many times I had cursed my traditional tape measure in that situation!I can't comment yet on durability, but so far, I really do like this thing.Hopefully Amazon or another merchant will start selling this with Prime shipping. The description does not make it clear that this tape is for "pull" measuring only. It will not give an accurate reading if pushed against a wall, for instance, because the hook does not slide as it does on most tapes. That said, it is great for shop use. I've been a carpenter/woodworker for 25+ years and I've never owned a flat tape, using rulers instead. This is excellent for measuring around curves, and for doing layouts of multiple measurements on a board because you don't have to push the edge of the tape down every time you make a mark. I checked the tape against an expensive machinist's rule, and it was dead accurate out of the box. Some have complained that it doesn't have the detailed fraction enumerations as some Fastcap tapes do, but I find these markings to be annoying clutter, just personal preference. This is a great compliment to the regular "Old Standby" with the curved blade, but it is not a general purpose tape measure. Also, the pencil sharpeners on these are not just a gimmick, they actually work well.
