At Knit's End

It is a great little book
This book was gifted to me and I, in turn, ordered one for a gift.It is written as a daily meditation. I read two pages each day. It is full of humor, food for thought and insight into the soul of a knitter. I love it. I definitely recommend it.

A fun book for Knitters
I cannot say how much I enjoyed this book. It is both witty and right on the button. As I read the book, I found myself laughing in so many places, not just from the humor but I was able to think, "I know exactly what she's talking about". I would recommend this book for any serious knitter who wants to look on the light side of knitting. On the other hand, non-knitters may not get every joke, so while they're certainly welcome to read the book, I think it was meant more for knitters. There are several areas, when she discusses winter items that aren't often in demand here in Texas (the author lives in Canada, where I suppose it gets pretty darn cold in the winter), so it's hard to make a real connection on the winter items themselves, but the knitting humor itself does indeed come through and even though I don't knit mittens, and very few hats, I still enjoy her viewpoint.Anyway, it's a great book, and I've taken it to my knitting group and have read several items out of it to my friends. A couple of my knitting buddies have informed me that they've ordered the book. Good for them!!! I hope more people do so. It's a great escape when some knitting mishap occurs as well for when one just wants to relax.

Cute and funny, but perhaps overpriced
This was one of those $1.99 books that Amazon was practically giving during the most recent holiday season. Being a big knitter/crocheter (I don't judge!), I thought, why not? This is a fun, little booklet with a quote, followed by a brief anecdote, closing with a "lessons learned" tiddly bit. They are pretty light-hearted, goofy, showing the love of knitting and the foibles of having a crazy hobby. That said, I'm glad I paid only $1.99. Most of the scenes are a mere 1 page long and even then, they filled maybe have the page (on a Kindle!). Also, some of the scenes were quite repetitive - the hoarding of yarn, the scouring for sales, knitting everywhere, how kids don't appreciate knit gifts, etc. If I had paid more, I would have been very upset.Avid knitters will appreciate the most, followed closely by those who know avid knitters. Just don't expect much meat.Brought to you by:*C.S. Light*

A Fun Read
Hilarious and so very true on many levels. At wits end validates my own knitting habit, I found myself laughing out loud as I identified with story after story. It's a fun read.

This woman is hilarious!
Stephanie Pearl-McPhee is not only a talented knitter but a gifted writer as well. I have 4 of her books and want to get them all eventually. It's great to have a knitter I can relate to. She has a super way of expressing herself. This is a gem of a book, and I recommend it, yes I do! Get it for yourself or for a friend who knits. I first read one of her books from the public library, then I was hooked. I usually read them in bed while my husband's sleeping, trying not to wake him, while I'm snickering away. I've even read parts of her books to him. After living with me (a knitter) for so long, he gets her humor too. Wonderful book.

Is laughing gonna' hurt you?
If you're just after surgery, stay away from this book.If you don't like laughing so hard that you can't breathe, just keep your mouse away from that "buy now" button. If you actually want to DO something between the moment you lay your hands on the book and the moment you finish reading the whole thing, spare yourself the anguish. If you've got appendicitis... ...NOT the book for you.But if you don't mind having a prolonged series of giggles at life's sublime ironies, buy a copy. Buy it because it's the funniest book to be published in 2005. Buy it to encourage Ms. Pearl-McPhee to keep writing. And knitting. Buy it - and drop by her blog to let her know you've done it.But only if you don't mind some hearty laughter.

Witty title, but lacking something...
This book is page after page of apparently witty reflections on a knitter's life. I may take it on holiday and leave it in a hotel library for some unsuspecting traveller to come across. It might make good vacation reading. I think if you really like knitting, you are better doing just that and not reading about it. Not for me, but maybe for someone else.

a favourite little book for knitters that have time to read about their obsession!
- writing greatly appreciated by the knitter I bought it for- I would recommended it as a present to any serious knitter (or anyone becoming a serious knitter) who also has a sense of humour!PS I offered to the same person 2 more books from same author:- Yarn Harlot- Things I learned from knitting

at your knits end ? your not alone.
a great little book for your knitting bag or hand bag, when you cant knit you can read about it. the black hole of knitting is so true, you measured your work and it's ex number of inches, knit all night, measure it a gain, and its the same! the black hole of knitting has struck again...

No time to knit, busy reading!
I just love this little 'pocket book', I didn't know that anecdotes on knitting could be such fun, I haven't finished it yet as I am actually learning to knit, (part of the reason I spotted this book and bought it) I was on Amazon buying books on beginner knitting, simple projects, now I find there is a whole world of 'hidden wool stashes' and 'knitting snobbery' out there just waiting for me to discover! A real find! Some real laughs, even for the non-knitter!
