The Unheard Cry for Meaning: Psychotherapy and Humanism

Life-Changing Book
I read this book a couple of months ago, and it has changed the way I think about life. I have had a long struggle with depression, anxiety, and OCD, and, as anyone who has dealt with these types of afflictions knows, there are times when you really have to work to see the positives in life. I now try to think about the core ideas in this book when I have a less-than-stellar outlook on life, which provides me with a good degree of comfort, and reminds me that NO SITUATION IS HOPELESS.Through his story of imprisonment in Nazi concentration camps during World War II, Victor Frankl illustrates that, even when it seems that everything has been taken away from us, we still have the ability to choose how we think about our situation, which is a great gift. This is really moving and important stuff, here. It is a book that I plan to retread many times, because I know that with each reading I will gain new insights and will be able to approach my own struggles with renewed strength. It really puts my own struggles in perspective, even as I deal with psychological conditions that can trick me into thinking life is hopeless.I truly think that everyone should read this book at sometime in their lives. It is a book that I will always have at the ready on my bookshelf (or in my Kindle library, if you will).

Classic
Great perspective for the psychology of being happy and fulfilled. Frankl astutely points out that happiness is a relative condition and that having an inner sense of an all encompassing sense of purpose that has worth to you makes even the most horrible conditions and bad things that happen to you endurable. Refreshing respite from Freud, Jung, Skinner, Rogers, et al Belabored the introduction some.

Humanity must pay attention to the generous and noble genius of Frankl
With every book, Frankl offers new insights and solutions, and deeper understanding of issues previously presented. This one is no different, and a must-read for every person who seeks to understand the problems faced by humanity in the modern world and to find viable and sustainable solutions.By Roumen Bezergianov, author of "Character Education with Chess", a Logotherapy method with chess

Heavy intellectualizing and some great lines
This a well-written book written in the 1970s, when psychoanalysis was still a big thing and psychotropic medications were primitive. Many of Frankl's viewpoints remain valid. Occasionally, he over-intellectualizes, but that was common at that time (before the pop psychologists/psychiatrists came on the scene).

Difficult to review
I think Frankl's ideas are closer to my truths than anything I've read lately. But why have no followers updated his work? it's distracting from his theories to read outdated stuff. I don't have words to explain how it feels to connect with thoughts you gather have been abandoned because no one bothered to create a modern version of logotheraphy--which seems strangely misnamed in the sense that it carries no force in the world today.

Life Changing
I don't want to exaggerate and say this book changed my life, but it has had an incredible impact on my personal philosophy. It's just an amazing book. If existentialism and psychology made a love child, this would be it. I'm still not sure why he isn't more known. Everyone could benefit from his brilliant thoughts. I have major depression and his work has helped me say yes to life.

The Cry for Meaning and the Exterior Terror of our Times
Frankl is worth reading, studying, and debating especially re philosophical, theologic as well as psychological concepts. The study of will to meaning is extremely profound, as Frankl notes the elicitation "in the face of one's death in a gas chamber in Auschwitz and Dachhau."Alan R. Ce livre présente un réel problème contemporain dans nos sociétés où règne l'abondance. En bon psychothérapeute, le Dr Frankl laisse à chacun trouver sa solution, même s'il donne certaines pistes de solution.Certains chapîtres sont assez difficiles à assimiler entièrement.C'est un livre que je relierai plus d'une fois.

Life changing
this book, along with Man's search for meaning are my BiblesV.Frankl has both education (neurologist and psychiatrist) and experience (camp survivor). His writing is clear, analytic, and helpful. One of the rare "self-help" books that is for real.I always get back to it when I feel lost
