Visual Galaxy: The Ultimate Guide to the Milky Way and Beyond

Don't waste your money on this book -
After having read the whole book I am extremely disappointed. Many explanations to good graphic depictions are too short as if written by absolute lay people on astronomy. It looks like the authors have no real grip on the subject matter they have written. Most images remain thus unexplained. The reader is left alone with incoherent meaningless texts that show no context and thus make it near impossible to grasp any deeper meaning of any images. Also relatively few actual photos, way too many graphics which are superficial and all too often don't add anything to the reader's knowledge of the subject matter. If you only want to look through a coloured picture book, this is an okay book but if you want to also get at least an intermediate understanding of structures and phenomena in the universe then better read books like Paul Murdin's excellent 'Secrets of the Universe: How We Discovered the Cosmos' and his 'The Secret Lives of Planets' (both these books clearly lack in images but there are better books with actual photos in the visible light, infrared, x-ray and radio waves out there then this book apparently written by people whose subject matter expertise lies in subjects other than astronomy.
