Complete Steel Guitar Method

I cannot recommend this method, but let me tell you why:First off, I have am trained in classical and flamenco guitar and have played guitar and mandolin in studio, theatre and small clubs. I have taught guitar and have a PhD in education. I am a trained and licensed teacher. Arthritis in my left hand has made traditional guitar playing difficult. So I am making the transition to lap steel.1) The book begins with music theory, assuming that the student is a complete beginner. If that were true, I guarantee the student would give up in frustration by page 12. It should begin with melody chords and lap stell techniques, introducing notation only when some skill and familiarity has been acquired.2) If you happen to be a skilled guitarist making the transition to lap steel, the E7 tuning MIGHT be an easier transition, since the fret positions are the same as barring. However very quickly you will find there is virtually nothing available in E7 online and very little in print.3) There's no Tab--possibly the thing every guitar, mandolin, and lap steel player should know.Save your money, buy a book with C6 tuning.

This book is a great help to beginners like me. It is easy to read and understand. I would, however, have liked it better if there were a paragraph or two on just how to get from note to note without slurring them together or buzzing the strings when the steel touches them but trial and error solves the problem. I recommend this book to anyone needing teach yourself guidance.

Good for beginning steel guitar players. It shows the basics of playing and music theory. One that has been playing for a while won't benefit much from it.

All in regular staff music. No tablature, it is exactly what I was looking for. It also has a nice vintage look that I like.

Great book for learning steel guitar.

Bought it for my grandson and he is working with it on his new St. Gui. tks KW

Helpful in my learning to play lap steel

I find this book very useful just great.

I like the method, we need to be able to read music for this one, it doesn't work with tab's
