I passed!
This book helped me pass my SHRM-CP exam, so I loved it! It is written in a very concise manner, no fluff, but that also makes it very hard to read. I am a quick reader, but the dryness in this book made me have to really slow down and re-read many times to really make sure I understood. Does it repeat itself? Yes. The paragraphs look similar, but there is always new information presented, so don't skip sections just because it looks like the paragraph above! The practice tests in this book were closest to my exam questions so I appreciated that. Now, because everyone asks, this is what I used to pass:- This book, read it, took the test at the end, looked up what I didn't recognize (and there are things in the test in the back that aren't in the book!), reread it, and took the test in the book again.- Another book of just 500 example questions (the pink one by Olemide Asekun) where I took each test and studied what I didn't know- Read the SHRM Bok available for free download on their website. Look up anything you haven't mastered and get friendly with their definitions in the back- Downloaded the free app Quizlet and found a SHRM-CP flashcard set with 750+ terms. Studied those whenever I had a chance. On the bike at the gym, as a car passenger, in between meetings, waiting to get my nails done, etc.

Don't waste your money (or time)
Used this book and flashcards from this company. I studied. . .alot. . .using these tools. Waste of time! The SHRM-CP exam I took this past wknd, incorporated little info provided in this book AND flashcards. Many of the reviews are people who did NOT take the test (thus the good rating!?). In that case, your ratings are useless. The actual exam questions are SO different than this practice exam!

Don’t Request the “Free Study Skills DVD Offer”
The study guide itself is ok, but don’t even bother with requesting the “Free Study Skills DVD Offer”. Inside of the workbook, there is a yellow sheet of copy paper. On this sheet of paper, the company suggests that you email them to receive your “free” copy of the Study Skills DVD. In the email, they (Mometrix) tells you to provide them with:a.) The name of the product you purchasedb.) Your product rating on a scale of 1-5, with 5 being the highest ratingc.) Your feedback. It can be long, short, or anything in-between, just your impressions and experience so far with our product. Good feedback might include how our study material met your needs and will highlight features of the product that you found helpful.d. Your full name and shipping address where you would like us to send your free DVD.NOWHERE on this piece of paper does it say to “please write an Amazon review in order to receive your free Study Skills DVD”. Once I emailed Mometrix my information, I received THREE emails from the company asking me to submit an Amazon review so they can ship my Study Skills DVD.Needless to say, the “free offer,” is false advertising. There is no “free” offer if you’re having to provide the company with “free” advertising. I understand that it’s nice/helpful for customers to write reviews, but that’s not something that should be required IF it doesn’t state so on the offer paper.

My sole study resource
I used this study guide and the flashcards from the same company. I passed my exam!! I love the practice test questions, and the testing tips they provided were actually really helpful. I read it cover to cover twice, then took notes from each section. Once when I was comfortable with the material, I studied my notes everyday. I'm so happy I found this resource.

Jan 2017: Just started using this. The information is straight to the point but there are grammatical errors, run-on sentences, typos, and the same exact sentences repeated more than 1 time. All of which makes me a little nervous. There is only 1 set of practice questions (100 questions) for 110 pages worth of reading. I would have hoped more considering there are no free practices tests for SHRM exams since it is relatively new. Verdict still out on the material and if it helps prepare you for the exam. Will update this once I sit for the exam.

Not helpful - disappointment
The content is relevant however the table of contents is vague, there is no index and is set up for someone who may already know a lot about HR. For me, changing careers, I’m learning all of this first hand. So trying to take the practice test as an open book exam for the first time sucks because I don’t necessarily know what category to find things. For example, a question about management strategy, I would think be under people, but it’s not in this book. Again without an index its very hard to learn what topics go under what category and learn through research. It’s making me work harder & stressing me out more leaving me feel like I’ll never pass. I do not recommend.

Great Content; Bad Editor
Read the book, studied the questions, and passed the Exam. Although the content is very helpful, I found the large number of "accidental paragraph reprints" (i.e. multiple iterations of the same paragraph) and the multitude of spelling errors to be annoying. It seemed as though an extremely competent and knowledgeable team of people sort of threw this book together in a matter of days without passing it through a qualified editor.

Straight to the Point Guide
I have really enjoyed the study guide so far. It gets straight to the point, without all the fluff that can make test prepping a drag. It dives right into the key concepts and terms that are needed and encompasses the meaning of a study guide to prep for an exam. As an HR professional, this guide brings in all the terms and concepts that we should already be familiar with and presents it in a simple and straight forward presentation. This is exactly what I was looking for and it did not disappoint.
