Bang! and the flies are gone
The mild weather seems to have led to an increase in the number of flies around and it soon went from a few to an annoying presence and especially at night when they head for the brightest lit room, so we thought this was worth a try..Ok, a number of reviews say about the noise and it's easy to think there may be some sensitivity/exaggeration. Three minutes after switching this on, there was a whip crack that made us all jump but it did signify the start to the end of the problem. The odd occasional 'crack' all evening and the tray at the bottom told us it was working very well. Yes, it does produce a flash depending how the fly hits it and sometimes the energy means rather than falling down, the flies are spat out of the unit.If on in the daytime, they do still go to it but it's much more attractive to them when the room is dark save for the blue glow. This has proven its worth and very quickly made a big difference to what was becoming a problem. Recommended if you're not of a nervous disposition

Not effective!
I'm not writing this to slag off this product, but to add an honest observation on its effectiveness. We had been inundated with flies coming into our kitchen and living room. We didn't want to repeat the problem of previous years, when considering preparing food and eating it.The Fly-Bye is a simple plug in, switch on and off you go. The problem is after 12 + hours all 6 flies in the kitchen were all happily doing fly by and avoiding the death trap. In truth, it didn't get one fly in 12 hours! The following morning, we tried our living room. 5 further hours and still zero flies! There are reviews that clearly praise the Fly-Bye. Mine is not one of them.I would suggest careful thought before jumping in with both feet.I would not recommend this product.Until I can find an effective alternative, I find a squirt of dettol on a settled fly, followed by a size 9 slipper works very well. As the 'Red Baron' of fly kills I'm now approaching 20 kills, and it's still only April!

Effective and good value for money
I like the fact that it is quite effective on house flys and blue bottle types. Not so effective on fruit flys though. It is a good size for medium sized room and I like that it can be hung up via the chains provided. It does make an enormously loud crack when a flying insect is zapped which I am still trying to get used to when I am near it.Easy to clean. Happy with this purchase.

Cheap but effective.
I own a similar device that uses 240V across the terminals, and to be honest, it seems to catch very little. When it does there's a bit of a sizzle if you listen carefully, but that's it.Seeing a friend with a 2.8KV zapper that effective but twice the price of this, I decided to be twice as tight and get the cheaper but similarly specified item.Removing this from the box you have to be careful of the top black plastic corners, as the edges aren't very smooth. That and the slight angle of one of the grills shows you're buying a cheaper product. It does come with a small chain and cleaning brush, so you have everything you need. When on you get a nice bright purple glow, which I can only assume has a lot of U.V. in it too. At night white items fluoresce quite well. You can see it's on in bright daylight. There's a small switch on the front and once started it's like having a couple of mini light-sabres in the room. Leave it for a while and you'll soon hear a loud crack noise when anything succumbs to the U.V. goodness. Even the smallest gnat (of those that aren't vaporised) will make a mighty noise. Bluebottles go off with a bang. There's a small plastic tray underneath for disposal of said victims, but I'm too afraid to remove it with this unit on. It's that impressive. Not only does it zap insects to their component atoms, but it does it in great quantities. It really does attract the pests, so much so that I'm getting worried about the imbalance of the ecosystem.

This really works!
I've been thinking about getting something like this for ages but wasn't sure if it would be worth the expense. But fed up with the never ending flies in my kitchen, I decided that the Fly-Bye was worth trying. OMG - this is a letal killing machine! Within 5 minutes of plugging this in on my kitchen worktop, the first few fatalities occurred. We are emptying the tray all the time because this zapper is really doing its job. I nearly jumped out of my skin the first time it zapped a fly, I thought someone has fired a gun lol! Honestly, I can't praise this enough, have told my family and friends how good this is. My kitchen is quite large so I would say that it really does work in a big space. I've placed it near to my fruit bowl as I figured flies are always hanging around there, not any more haha.
