Seven StarTransformer 200W Step Down 220/110 + Italy Travel Adapter Plug (200-IT)

This transformer with an adapter for Italy worked great for our trip to Italy. The adapter needed for Italy is different than for other countries- the three-pronged, round metal pegs. The adapter can be detached from the transformer and there remains a two-pronged round adapter which also worked directly into Italian plugs. This one might work elsewhere in Europe- I'm not sure about that, but it seems it might be possible. The transformer did its job- it converted the 220 voltage and the 50 Hz in Europe to the standard US 110 voltage, 60 Hz. I had no issues whatsoever. I was surprised that it wasn't needed to charge iPhones since they are built for accept either voltage. I did need it for my laptop, however, and my hair straightener. In some hotels the hair straightener did not get as hot as normal but I don't think that had anything to do with the transformer. I gave it only 4 stars instead of 5 because it is quite heavy. I know in the past I owned a transformer that was lighter weight. Since I wasn't heavily packed and it stayed in the hotel room, it wasn't an issue, but it would have been heavy to actually lug around.

This transformer was awful. Sadly, I bought it early enough that I can't return it. I just returned from a trip to Italy and on day one, roughly seven minutes after plugging in my hair straightener, it popped and smoke started pouring from the transformer. Not to mention it blew a fuse in the apartment. These folks sure know how to scam money off people. Ladies do yourself a favor and buy a dual voltage straightener...it's cheaper than this mess of a product.

The step-down transformer is a must in Italy - where heavy drain electronic devices like hair dryers, curling irons, some PCs and Phones, etc., need the conversion. We also lent this device to a traveling companion who needed to use a breathing device during the night in order to sleep properly. We were glad to have bought this through Seven Star in the US - our friend could not find a 200W transformer for his critical breathing device in Italy.

Returned it because it is really heavy and to be honest more useful for larger electrical appliances 225 and up I have a lighter version 220 to 110 for hair dryer, cell recharge Kindle recharge and electric shaver and a lot lighter.

Excellent product, well made, it comes with removable ac plug converter so it can be used to go from US plug to an Italian plug without converting the power if needed.

Blew out the electricity in the hotel room in Venice. I don't recommend

This burned up on the first use.
