Decent replacement for my old Free Authority Outdoors hat
I bought this as a backup hat for when my beloved and adventure worn 'Free Authority Outdoors' boonie hat kicks the bucket. My old one is starting to unravel and get holes, and they don't make this particular hat any longer, so they've become difficult to find. This one by Phaiy looks almost identical to my old hat and has the precise dimensions, so I decided to pick one up. Initial thoughts . . .PROS:*matches my old hat almost exactly, almost as if they used the 'Free Authority Outdoors' hat as the model for this one. Same design and dimensions in every way.*3 inch brim is nice. A lot of boonie hats have 2-2.5 inch brims. Wide brim=better sun protection.*chin cord is a sewn strip made from same material as hat instead of that dumb woven rope most boonie hats have. Big plus for me since the rope tends to fray and pick up stickers and junk on the trail.*fits perfectly and looks great on my head.*Inner shell is cotton canvas and seems ok, but not great.colors match the picture in description well. I love the olive drab and burnt orange combo!*hat is floppy compared to many boonie hats I've worn. This is a PRO for me, as I like the floppiness and the look it gives...others may see this as a negative, but it's one of the reasons I went with this hat.CONS:*came folded up like origami, so brim is now really creased and looks goofy unless I wear it with brim snapped, which is luckily how I usually wear it. Perhaps the creasing will go away after washing/wearing it.*hat is not 100% cotton canvas on the outside, only on the inside. I really wish the entire hat was made from 100% cotton, but it isn't. (listing says it's high tech and more durable than cotton. We'll see)*chin cord is set forward so that cord hangs in front of my ears instead of behind them, which is a pet peeve of mine on hats. I can force the cord behind my ears, but it's uncomfortable. Might not be the case for everyone.*Outside of hat has a sheen to it that makes it look somewhat like velvet. It's very shiny, which I don't care for. Probably due to the outside material containing polyester.*lackluster craftsmanship: The sewing on the seems ain't the greatest. There are some loose threads, and areas where the seems aren't in line. Material is somewhat thin, compared to my old hat. Not sure how it's going to hold up to heavy use, sun, water and repeat washings. We'll see.*No tag on hat that lists materials. Seller listing says it's cotton, poly and PU, but who knows? I guess China doesn't have the same obligation to post materials on tags as U.S.I may alter this review as I use the hat. These are my initial thoughts of the item right out of the package and after trying it on and wearing it for a short time. It was an inexpensive hat, and one gets what they pay for. If you're looking for a basic boonie hat to keep the sun off your face at festivals and such, go for it! If it's for heavy trail use, fishing, etc...it may or may not hold up. Again, I'll have to see how it fares after some trail hiking and such. Worst case scenario, my kids can wear it, and I'll keep looking for that elusive used 'Free Authority Outdoors' boonie hat I got at Ross for 7 bucks over a decade ago. There must be another one out there someplace.

Hat of the gods.
Best hat I ever did wear. Comfortable. Stylish. Perfect fit. Shady. Stays on tight when I put it in four wheel drive chin strap mode. I can feel the jealousy steaming off of passerbyâs. Iâm honestly the envy of every girl at prom. If Cinderella lost her hat, this would be the perfect fit. Hoping to snag Prince Charming in this floral print bucket.

Protects Scalp, Nose & Eyes. Attractive and well-made. Quality. Limited UV Protection.
Not at all wide-brim.Not alotta UV protection unless sun is high in the sky.Protects eyes from glare, but below nose level you will sustain UV attack.I expected to get neck, face and head protection.Granted, it is difficult to judge from a picture, my bad.IF you ONLY want protection for nose, scalp and eyes, and need a comfortable, quality hat ...THIS hat will do nicely. It keeps scalp cool. Will not fit a large head.I kept it ... not sure why. đđđ

Good face protection.
I've never been a fan of bucket hats until now. I had quite an adventure that included some free solo climbing and intense bush whacking. It kept my neck sunburn free while climbing in full sun exposure. The best part was it drooped down enough to protect my face from branches and thorns during 3 miles of bushwhacking through a dense river bed.Construction and materials are solid. The brim is soft and floppy as pictured. My only complaint is that the size is a little snug and the strap is attached to the had directly over the ears. I would prefer the strap to be in front of the ears a half an inch or so, but this one is right smack in the center of the hat so putting the strap under my chin means that it rubs on the top of my ears. I often wear it with the strap to the back of my head to get it out of the way.

Two-tone hats look better
The first thing I noticed right away was that this hat was SLIGHTLY lighter than my older hats in the same style. I thought âuh-ohâ. Then I tried it on and realized itâs WAY more comfortable than those thicker hats, and that I was actually going to wear it more than those others, simply because when itâs sunny, it is sometimes HOT, and you want your head to be able to breathe!Durability? I dunno, it hasnât really been long enough to know that yet. My old hats lasted quite awhile, but again, please note, I did not wear those consistently because they were a thicker cotton and they made my head sweat.I bought an extra one for work.

what I ordered vs. what I got
Perhaps this is too nit-picky for a clothing item purchased on Amazon, but several of the specificities in this listing are not accurate. The hat is 100% polyester without a trace of cotton (listing indicates hat is 100% cotton). Additionally, size indicated is a âLargeâ but tag states hat is âOne Size.â Perhaps these are details that would it bother the average consumer - but this is why I generally avoid âfashionâ or clothing items on Amazon. The quality is almost always lacking when the item arrives. See also: â what I ordered vs. what I gotâ memes. Amazon is just not delivering in the clothing arena.

An Honest Hat, for an Honest Budget
To be quite frank, for the $10-15 that these hats cost they are hard to beat.Within a week of receiving mine I had worn it on several adventures - biking, kayaking and hiking - during each of which it got wet, dirty, etc. both in the rain, from sweat, and from swimming. The hat is admirably water resistant to external forces, however if you sweat like me that wonât make a difference anyway.I have run it through three wash and dry cycles, slight shrinkage but not significant. I washed in cold, dried on low heat. Wouldnât have a problem continuing to wash as needed, will likely switch to air-drying just for longevity. All in all, I think that for the price this particular hat will perform well for most needs. Especially compared to similar hats that come in at 3-4x the price.
