Lightning: Bolts of Destruction [DVD]

IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD............for about 95 minutes.
Poor lightning gets a bad rap in this movie. One minute it's positive, the next it's negative and about to end the world!!! The story features a woman who cried wolf (Joanna Pacula as Dr. Valery Landis), she's an expert meteorologist and part time soothsayer who predicts imminent DOOM from the skies. She runs around with a fancy tablet thingy that tells her when to duck and run for cover as lightning is on the way! She warns people when she can because she enjoys being right all the time. She has a son who is brilliant but pouty (Noel Fisher as Jeremy Landis). She also has an ex-con for a sister (Ellen Dubin as Gail). The good doctor is French; her ex-con sister is not. And her husband just happens to be up north making something or other that they later reconfigure into a pulse weapon gizmo storm killer. It's all quite technical and super serious (especially Nick Mancuso as General Fields, who orders a bomb drop because he has precious little else to do in this dopey sci-fi flick).I especially loved it when the doomsayer doctor produces a "weather fossil" to prove her gloomy predictions and then she can't understand why no one thinks she is as brilliant as she thinks she is.This is dopey fun on a colossal level that is unprecedented in all of filmdom. Or, something like that. It's actually pretty standard where disaster flicks are concerned. Unfortunately, you can only do so much with lightning so they added the family melodrama component, which neither helps nor hinders the story of nature gone bad.

A good film
Artwork, case, disc A. I like these movie’s especially this one. It was interesting to me that it could happen in real life? I recommend this movie.

Typical, enjoyable, end of the world as we know it, film.
I just got this movie and I've watched it twice. It is a good movie that I am suprised I haven't seen on the sci-fi channel. I like the story line and the acting was ok. In short the world is in danger. positive charged lightening( apparently more dangerous than regular lightening) will bring on the next ice age. The scientist has an idea, on how to save the world with the help of her family. great film.

a little too focused on family subplots, not enough on the storms, for my taste (2.5/5)
this movie is too melodramatic at times and gets bogged down indialogue and subplots that don't really advance the story,in myopinion.the acting is not bad, especially from Noel Fisher who playsJeremy Landis, the teenage son of the lead female character Dr.ValeryLandis(Joanna Pacula)a weather specialist.there is at least 1 positivething about the movie, and that is the scenes involving the lightningstorms.the effects are fairly well done, in this regard.i certainlydidn't hate this movie, but i do wish it had focused more on the stormaspect than the family issues.it kind of felt like 1 of those'Lifetime' channel movies.if you don't mind that kind of movie, then youwill probably like this 1.if not,you might want to avoid it.i'd have tosay this movie is average,so 2.5/5 seems fair.
