Durango Swap Upgraded Heavy Duty Power Steering Gear Box for Jeep Wrangler & Cherokee

I purchased a "used-like new" gear box with not much hope that it would be worth the extra savings. Upon inspection, it appears the gear box was never installed.So I went ahead and installed the gear box in my 2001 xj and I am impressed so far. It turns my 35s like butter! The case is also beefier which was expected with the Durango box. So far 2 weeks in and no leaks or issues. If this shall change, I will update my review.

Direct Fit For Jeep XJ, performs as it should and exceeds performance of other brands. Greater Resistance at The Steering Wheel But Is Tight with little to no play. I had Coupled This With a Sector Shaft Brace Kit, great combination and upgrade for lifted/larger tire XJ, would have given 5 stars but the warranty is only 90 days, should be 1 year minimal at this price point. Not comforting to know that if I have a problem beyond 90 days Im not covered and would suffer $400+ in Financial Harm.

I've a 1991 Jeep wrangler with a 6" lift and 35" tires. The previous AGR gearbox developed lateral play in the sector shaft. I shopped all around and found this one for an affordable $279. Installation went smoothly and, although this gearbox only required 3 of the 4 bolts, was the same as the previous box. I took the Jeep out for a test run into the Southern California mountains and on the highway and off road the steering is finally tight again, no vagueness or wandering. Excellent service.

I bought this cause I stripped my stock one and thought to upgrade. Now I have to do the whole project again since this one whines and now I can’t return and it is 10x worse than stock. Buy oem or go to junkyard

My 00 TJ needed a new box, 35s and a PSC pump took their toll after a few seasons of hard Moab/ Sand Hallow wheelin. Install was a no brainier. Filled with Swepco fluid. Is a little quicker feeling but drives great.

After driving for 10 year with my gearbox faulty, this one seems like a dream 2001 wrangler fit right on the money

I bought this steering box as an upgrade for my 2000 Jeep Wrangler. I have previously upgraded all other front end and steering components with Rough Country heavy duty gear. After installation of the new steering box, I had minimal improvement with steering wheel play. I would not make this purchase again as I experienced little to no improvement.

Installed this in my 1998 XJ. I reused a steering box upgraded spacer brand unknown. Had to grind a bolt head slightly to clear on the spacer. This appears to be a bigger bore then stock xj but the ratio is the same. So expect less effort to turn your wheels. To bleed it right i needed to run it lock to lock with the wheels off the ground. Drive around and bleed it again to get all the froth out. I was able to reuse my stock steering lines but just barely as they wanted to twist off instead of unscrewing. Rent the pitman arm and a tierod end puller and mark your steering alignment to center. Dont spin your steering wheel and break the clock spring.
