I was amazed at how easy the setup was; plug and play doesn't even come close. I installed this on my "simple" desktop first, as a test and it worked immediately. Then I moved it to my more complicated set up and it worked there as well. I haven't done any critical listening yet, as this was just to use external powered speakers for some applications. I use a Bose gaming headset for zoom/chat etc., but sometimes I need to listen to a phone message without grabbing my Bose. I couldn't be happier; I immediately ordered another for my "simple" desktop where the headphone jack is hidden somewhere and this can be right out front. Super!

For the price this does it’s job exceptionally well. On the iPhone though (11) while using my sennheiser 569 it sometimes cuts to all static. Returned it and the new one did the same thing. I now only use it with my cheap office computer for better sound quality and there it has performed flawlessly. For 27 bucks it’s a good way to dip your toes in the water of usb dacs.

This was the cheapest option i could find for adding toslink to my desktop. It was able to get rid of a nasty ground loop issue I had. This was completely plug and play on windows, no drivers needed. If you are planning to use this with a cellphone or other mobile device, this does not have any volume controls. It does have it's own internal mic, so you can you any headphones and still have a microphone. P.S. The internal microphone only works with analog out and not with digital out.

With Apple Music now providing various levels of Hi-Resolution, Lossless music in their Music app, Apple's current hardware requires an external DAC to listen to it. No telling when or if Apple will respond with new hardware to match. With people listening in such low fidelity on small bluetooth speakers and music mixed to match this low level, perhaps, no one even cares about HiFi music anymore. If you do, for the time being you will need an external DAC or DACs incorporated in playback systems to avail yourself of this revolution. You can spend hundreds of bucks way up into the thousands to get a suitable DAC. Or, you can spend 22 dollars on the Reiyin DA-02 DAC USB-A Digital to Analog Converter, 192khz 24bit USB to 3.5mm Audio Adapter with Analog and Optical Digital Output Mode - Red. I did. With necessary adaptors for Lightning and USB C connectors, I used this device on my iPhone and 2020 MacBook Air through my 2.1 Denon system with B & W speakers and it sounded great. I even streamed Neil Young's NYA channel at the highest quality, though a wired connection and it sounded great too. I don't know if it better than a similar looking device that costs 3 hundred bucks or others costing way more. I do know for 22 dollars I have no regrets and would advise you to try this if you are ready to step up your digital music listening.

I actually bought this to use as a way to pass digital signal from my phone all the way to a DSP in the car. I haven't installed the DSP yet, but in the meantime I've been using it with a USB-C OTG adapter and using the 3.5mm port to my radio's AUX input. The sound is better than I expected - maybe not as good as the Quad DAC in my LG phone, but very good nonetheless. It worked just as it should have right out of the box, no need to connect it to my computer to configure (YMMV). Using the OTG adapter allows my phone to charge at the same time which is nice. I will likely edit the review when I finally hook up my new DSP and have a chance to test the optical digital capability. At this point I don't have any reason to think that it won't work as expected. UPDATE: When using the optical output to my car DSP it randomly has hiccups/dropouts in the audio. I thought it was the optical cable at first but I tested the cable on another device and it worked fine. I also tried to change every setting I could think of on my phone and on my music apps - no change. It worked really well in analog mode when using an aux cable out to the stereo, and also works well with headphones. Disappointing about the optical issues though - it's the main reason I bought it.

Apple did away with optical digital output on newer iMac. This is an easy solution to that problem. Now able to stream from iMac to preamp DAC. USB to preamp connection was just unreliable for my system.

With my 9th gen iPad the optical toslink out doesn't work with Amazon Music and would tops at 96kHz in Qobuz. Tidal HD (no Master) works ok too. I am not returning it as I plan to still use it for the headphone out when traveling. Its still a very useful device.

Does what it says on the tin. Outputs have very little noise, and this addressed an issue I had with the Raspberry Pi 4's headphone jack having low output volume. I'm not sure I would use this specifically for the 192kHz output rate, but for 44.1kHz/48kHz rates (typical for AirPlay / shairport-sync) this works very well.
