British Fingerstyle Guitar [DVD] [NTSC]

Carthy, the greatest exponent of British fingerstyle guitar, always said that he didn't want to encourage a legion of copyists to slavishly emulate his technique. Hence, this is, as far as I'm aware, the only tutoring material that he has ever produced.Unfortunately, in the process of copying the original VHS video onto DVD, the sound quality has suffered appallingly and the volume control needs to be turned up almost to maximum in order to hear everything that he's saying and playing.Explaining his inability to get on with the DADGAD tuning popularised by that other great (and now late) guitarist, Davey Graham, as the inspiration for the development of his ground-breaking and original CGCDGA solution, Carthy demonstrates its capabilities on several tunes and a song, using split-screen to good effect.As a springboard for developing your own variants of the Carthy guitar style, watching this DVD is useful. It's just a shame that it's so hard to listen to.

I have been a fan of Martin Carthy for many years, from the days of the North Clapham Folk club in the 1980's.Always amazed by his incredibly individual Guitar style I bought this DVD and was pleased to find he offers a deep insight into his style of open tunings Guitar string gauges and fingerstyle techinque.Highly recommended to any guitar player who is interested in great song interpretation and to observe at close quarters a great player who has the magic "touch" Highly recommended. Excellent.
