Helikon-TexPatriot Fleece Jacket Olive

Purchased this fleece in medium; I have a 40 inch chest and it is sized to go over a thick mid-layer, or as a generous fit over a base layer. Length and overall fit is excellent for a warm fleece, completely unrestrictive. The hood is great; it has draw cords but no volume adjustment, but fits me just fine and turns well with my head. Fleece feels like a felt, not as light or soft as Polartec but low bulk, soft and smooth; very warm and pleasant to wear. The fleece is wind-resistant, but as with any fleece you would need a windproof outer layer in a cold wind (perhaps their Level 5 jacket?). Front zip has a draught blocker lined with fabric to stop the zip catching, and there is a nice zip garage at the top. The pit zips open outwards from the middle, allowing a very small opening in the middle to be created - very clever. Pockets are high-level so as to be above a rucksack belt, so a little awkward to use as hand-warmers, but this is a technical jacket after all. For this price I am pleasantly surprised with all the features and the obvious quality.

I bought this fleece mainly for the heavy weight - the fleece is extra thick and very warm. The hood is well sculpted, fitting snugly with adjustable cords. There are more pockets than I'll ever be able to use, located in convenient places (on the chest and several on each arm). The cuffs are also adjustable, fitting snugly to keep in all of the warmth. I have hardly taken this fleece off since receiving it and would love to buy one for my fiancée. Seems to be very well constructed, and I expect it to last for 10 years, making the price justifiable.

The Helikon Patriot Fleece is a very capable piece of clothing. I have worn it on cold days/nights for three years now and it has never failed me. I have been kept comfortable and warm by it on walks up mountains in the Lake District in gales with snow and ice all around; whilst watching sport in freezing stadiums on winter days; on country walks in freezing fog; on the way to and from work on days when it was -20 degrees celsius and so on. It is extremely comfortable, warm, well made and with all the zips (the ones on the main body of the fleece reveal deep pockets) you can store an assortment of items about your person which will be useful for your day out hillwalking, camping etc! Simply awesome. I have been very impressed by it. The one I’ve had is now a bit big so I’m about to order another as a replacement as the Patriot is the only cold weather fleece I would think of buying. If you get one I’m sure you won’t regret it.

After looking at many tactical fleeces,reading reviews etc,I went for the Patriot 1.What a right choice that was,quality wise its excellent,very well made and feels good too.Im 6.2'-46" chest,34"waist...I did order M at 1st and it fitted really well t-shirt underneath snug fit but,the arm length were just a bit to short for me 1.5" too short.It makes a difference when out and about.So went for L obviously not as tailored slim fit look but,still a nice fit and sleeve length is perfect..Ordered Woodland M then Coyote L.Both very nice but,Coyote I stuck with..Highly recommended fleece..

Received today, earlier than expected - tick.Noted various comments around the sizes and their fits, so was a little apprehensive opting for XL flavour.I'm 6' 2", broad shouldered and 90 kilos in weight, the item is a good fit for me and i dont like tight or 'fitted' clothing.I could easily wear a full sleeve sweatshirt under this if required.In my view anyone shorter or less broad would probably find this item hanging off them so would suggest the Large opyion. I appreciate clothing is subjective and one mans fit is anothers nightmare, so take this the way its intended - a view, im not a fashion stylist!On inspection appears good and well constructed. The material is impressively thick (dare i say fleecey) and feels as warm as it looks. Many (cheaper) fleeces look warm but they are thin and fail to trap the heat to be of much use in colder weather. This fleece however does and in my opinion excellent value for money. Even if i only wear for the next few cold months, it only works out a few quid a week. My first impressions are that it looks and feels as though it will last for another season at least.Not so sure I wolud use the sleeve pockets, any weight jingling around my arms would be a distraction and eventually an annoyance, others may be less sensitive and find them a great addition. The zip function is solid and smooth considering a little awkward to use, bit nonetheless a plus if used regularly.The hood. I havent used in anger, but a couple of minutes in front of the mirror I noticed that it looked slightly off-centre, whether its the stitching or material cut that is giving the illusion, is difficult to tell. As a result when up it felt a little twisted, but im sure it wouldnt be noticeable or of concern if it keeps the biting cold out! Not a reason to get all sensitive over and reject, i might add.When wearing, the absence of pockets to keep ones hands warm is a little dissapointing. Another reviewer, pointed something similar out, I agree. The addition of some pockets for this purpose would have smashed 5 stars.At the risk of stating the obvious...being a fleece and despite its obvious quality, this garment will not offer much in the way of wind protection. I can feel a moderate 8 degree wind chill on a December evening just breaching the fleece, so anything stronger and colder is gonna hurt without another resistant layer present. (being a toughdey bloke, youre not going to feel that though.. right?)Overall Im very happy with this garment and has exceeded expectations. If im honest i was expecting something less substantial.

For the money, this is an excellent quality fleece, better than the high street variants you'll find in Blacks and Mountain hardware.Very sturdy, very warm and good quality zips and fasteners, it's not mil spec or up their with the high prices TAD gear originals, but for the cash I think you'd struggle to beat it.Loads of pockets and very snug.Delivery was quick and fitting was a little larger than expected, I had to drop a size.I've ordered two more of these since from other sources.

This heavy fleece jacket is very warm and comfortable and also has that tacticool look. The 3XL (EU) size fits me perfectly. I'm 180 cm and 125-130kg strongfat build and it makes me look slim. Good value for the price

Sized nicely, nice sleeve and torso length. I have some room in, but it's pretty warm. I've worn it outside into the upper thirties (wearing a tee-shirt underneath). It doesn't do well keeping the wind out, but a really good purchase. Not to mention it's very well made, may buy another if this one ever needs to be replaced.
