150 Best Sustainable House Ideas

very informative and comprehensive view of special home designs

I purchased this book as a gift for my folks as they are currently in the process of designing their house. They've taken a couple ideas from this book and its helping move the process along by providing many different examples and layouts of what they would want but don't know how to go about implementing them.

I expected more detailed reviews with plans of what makes the houses standout. Also, when will someone start to promote sustainable houses that are not capital intensive, and are more up the alley of the masses?!

Not what I expected. Mostly pictures. I don't blame the seller.

Lots of glitzy homes here. But many are similar, and all are large, expensive homes. Hardly sustainable.

I'm not sure why people are giving rave reviews about this book. There are a bunch of pics with some tiny floor plans.. that's it. Not much details on anything. I wanted to read details about all the houses published in here along with architectural information. This product seriously falls short of expectations. This is more like someone collected a bunch of housing pics from the internet and turned it into a book.

This book is filled with so many wonderful house ideas. Would love to design my own container home some day and this book is a real inspiration.

Good read

Not enough technical information to be helpful in planning our own home. Not much use.

This is for the Kindle edition. I was a little wary after reading the reviews of 150 Best Eco House Ideas from the same publisher but A) Thought that, surely, it can't be that bad and B) the Kindle edition was less than half the price of the normal book. So I had a punt. I have to say that the £6.49 was money badly spent. Buy this book only if you want (small*) pictures of some nice houses in exotic countries accompanied by patronisingly basic information. For a book that claims to offer "150 BEST ideas" there's absolutely nothing that you can take away and apply. I quote some typical examples below. eg "054 The use of renewable energy from the sun, wind, and thermal energy stored in the earth’s crust can allow a home to rely less on non-renewable sources such as fossil fuels, coal, and natural gas." "063 LED lights have a considerably lower environmental impact than compact fluorescent lamps and an even lower impact than incandescent lighting over the lifetime of the products." Genius. It really does read like a 14 year old's school project. There is absolutely nothing of value here for anyone looking for insight into sustainable living (unless, of course, you are actually a 14 year old looking to pad out your homework). *re image size. The images are small on the page but at least on the kindle you can zoom in to see some detail. If the other review is anything to go by the print version images will be unusably miniscule.
