Hellwig is a German based company that is known for supporting motorsports and offering high-quality products. They are the official supplier of all Volkswagen vehicles, including the Beetle and Golf, as well as the official supplier of Audi and Porsche vehicles. Hellwig is also a sponsor of racing teams like Audi and Porsche. Hellwig offers a wide range of products for both passenger cars and commercial vehicles. Among their products are shocks struts, suspension sway bars, and parts. Hellwig was founded in 1891 in Chemnitz, Germany by Friedrich Hellwig. The company originally sold saddles, stirrups, spurs, and horse carts. They also started to make car lifts in 1916. In 1938, they started to make car springs on an additional location and expanded their business in 1954 when they moved production to their current headquarters in Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen. In 1967 Hellwig began to produce shock absorbers. Between 1991 and 1993 Hellwig introduced new suspension systems for the VW Golf GTI that focused on reducing noise levels without compromising ride quality. In 1994, Hellwig introduced the first cross-drilled brake discs for the VW Golf V GTI. In 1999, Hellwig became official supplier of Volkswagen vehicles and has since also been supplier of Audi and Porsche vehicles.
